New details have emerged regarding the death of 18-year-old Anna Kepner, whose body was found on the Carnival Horizon cruise ship. A court filing has confirmed that the FBI investigation now includes a minor who was traveling with her, raising new questions about the circumstances surrounding her death.

Anna, known as a bright student with aspirations to join the military, was discovered beneath a bed in her cabin, wrapped in a blanket and covered with life jackets. The cruise ship returned to PortMiami on November 8, after which the FBI’s Miami field office launched a federal investigation into her death. Carnival Cruise Line has stated their full cooperation with the ongoing investigation.

Anna was on the cruise with family, including her stepmother, Shauntel Hudson, who brought her own children along. Recently, Hudson’s attorney filed an emergency motion in Brevard County family court, indicating that the FBI had advised her of a potential criminal case against one of the minors who were present during Anna’s passing. The motion seeks to delay a court hearing regarding unrelated family matters, asserting that Hudson’s testimony could inadvertently jeopardize the inquiry or incriminate herself or the minor involved.

Family members described Anna as a vibrant individual who made a positive impact in her community, actively volunteering, cheering, and preparing to graduate from high school. A memorial has been set up in her honor at her school, filled with flowers and stuffed animals.

As of now, neither the FBI nor Carnival have released further details about the investigation, and no charges have been made. The case remains active.
