New information has emerged regarding the mysterious death of 18-year-old Anna Kepner, who was found dead on the Carnival Horizon cruise ship. Recent court filings indicate that the FBI’s investigation now involves her teen stepbrother.
Kepner, from Titusville, was recognized by her family as a dedicated student with aspirations to join the military. Her body was discovered by a housekeeper beneath the bed in her cabin, wrapped in a blanket and surrounded by life jackets. Following this tragic event, the Horizon docked at PortMiami on November 8, prompting the FBI’s Miami field office to initiate an investigation.
Reports confirm that Kepner was traveling with family, including her stepmother, Shauntel Hudson, and several minor children. An emergency motion recently filed in Brevard County family court revealed that the FBI has suggested a possible criminal case against one of the minors present during the cruise, who is now considered a suspect in Kepner’s death. Consequently, her stepbrother is currently living with a relative for the protection of the other children involved.
The motion also seeks to delay a scheduled court hearing, citing that Hudson might face self-incrimination or risk repercussions for the minor child in question if she testifies.
Kepner’s family described her as a vibrant and passionate young woman, heavily involved in her community and looking forward to graduating high school next spring after successfully passing military enlistment tests. Friends have paid tribute to her memory with a memorial at her school, leaving stuffed animals and flowers at her parking spot.
While loved ones plan a celebration of her life in Titusville, details surrounding her death remain unclear as neither the FBI nor Carnival has disclosed what led to this tragic incident, and no charges have been filed. The investigation is ongoing.
