Philadelphia Set to Kick Off Construction on New Cruise Ship Terminal for April 2026 Opening
Forget flying to Florida for a cruise; Philadelphia is set to become a cruise ship destination. The Port of Philadelphia announced on December 2, 2025, that it has begun construction on the PhilaPort Cruise Terminal, which will be the home port for Norwegian Cruise Line vessels.
This development follows PhilaPort’s previous announcement that Norwegian Cruise Line would start offering trips from Philadelphia. The facility is being redeveloped within the SouthPort Marine Terminal complex, aimed to be operational by April 2026.
Construction will occur at the former Hog Island Dock Terminal Facility in Tinicum Township. PhilaPort and Energy Transfer Marketing and Terminals are collaborating on the redevelopment of the property.
Norwegian Cruise Line has a seven-year berthing agreement with the Port, effective from April 15, 2026, through March 31, 2033, which includes an initial commitment of 41 sailings per year. The new terminal is expected to generate over 2,100 jobs and contribute around $300 million annually to Pennsylvania’s economy.
Officials are excited about the timing of the cruise port’s opening, coinciding with significant events such as the U.S. 250th anniversary celebrations in 2026. PhilaPort emphasized the anticipation surrounding a cruising experience that reflects Philadelphia’s maritime heritage and future potential.
