Carnival Horizon Sets Sail: Delivering Much-Needed Hurricane Relief Supplies to Jamaica
Carnival Cruise Line has dispatched another shipment of hurricane relief supplies to Ocho Rios, Jamaica, aboard the Carnival Horizon. This important delivery consists of 24 pallets weighing over five tons, containing essential items such as hygiene kits and medical supplies. The shipment was organized in collaboration with Direct Relief, the Miami HEAT, and the Micky & Madeleine Arison Family Foundation.
Before the ship’s departure, Miami HEAT Legend Alonzo Mourning and mascot Burnie worked alongside Captain Niccolo De Ranieri and Carnival team members to prepare and load the supplies. Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line, highlighted the significance of their partnerships, stating, "This partnership demonstrates the strength of coming together to help those in need."
Direct Relief CEO Amy Weaver emphasized the necessity of ongoing support, especially after significant disasters. "Because of the longstanding partnership and commitment of Carnival Corporation, the Miami HEAT, and the Micky & Madeleine Arison Family Foundation, we’re able to get essential medical support to communities across Jamaica," she noted.
The latest delivery is part of a broader humanitarian effort spearheaded by Direct Relief. On December 13, another airlift from Miami carrying 120 pallets of vital medical supplies was sent to support hospitals and clinics affected by Hurricane Melissa. Combined with the shipment aboard Carnival Horizon, this initiative totals 144 pallets of medical aid, amounting to 68 tons and marking one of the largest private-sector relief efforts aiding Jamaica’s recovery.
As part of this commitment, Carnival Corporation, the Miami HEAT, and the Micky & Madeleine Arison Family Foundation collectively contributed $1 million to Direct Relief, facilitating these crucial supplies and supporting long-term recovery efforts in the region.
