Norwegian Cruise Line Sets Sail from Exciting New Port Destination!
Vacationers looking for Caribbean cruise options outside Miami or Port Canaveral have new choices this winter, as both Norwegian Cruise Line and MSC Cruises have launched exciting new voyages from a popular U.S. port, enhancing the appeal of this cruise departure point.
On December 13, Norwegian Viva commenced its inaugural winter cruise season from the Port of Galveston, Texas. This 3,100-passenger ship features family-friendly attractions such as the Viva Speedway, the largest three-level racetrack at sea, and a dynamic three-story theater that transforms into a nightclub. Norwegian Viva will predominantly offer seven-day itineraries to destinations including Cozumel and Costa Maya in Mexico, Roatan in Honduras, and Harvest Caye, a private resort in Belize. In January, it will extend to 14-day voyages, reaching further into the Caribbean, including stops in St. Thomas, St. John’s, and Puerto Rico. The ship is set to return for a second winter season in 2026.
In addition to Norwegian Viva, MSC Seascape is now sailing year-round from Galveston, marking MSC Cruises’ debut in Texas. This ship delivers a blend of European style and American comfort with itineraries that also include ports in Costa Maya, Cozumel, and Roatan.
With the opening of Galveston’s new state-of-the-art Cruise Terminal 16, the port is poised for significant growth. It is expected to welcome nearly 4 million passengers and 445 sailings in 2026. Notably, Royal Caribbean plans to send the massive Icon of the Seas to Galveston starting in August 2027, further solidifying the port’s importance in the cruise industry.
