Tragic Accident: Teacher, 47, Dies After Cruise Ships Collide on Egypt’s Nile River
A tragic incident occurred on December 21, 2025, when a cruise ship carrying around 70 Italian tourists collided with another vessel on the Nile River in Egypt, less than 20 miles from Luxor. Among the passengers was Denise Ruggeri, a 47-year-old teacher from Italy, who sadly did not survive the accident.
The collision happened around 7 p.m. local time, during an attempt to navigate through a lock in the waterway. Reports indicate that as a result of the crash, several people fell into the water and at least four cabins were severely damaged.
Denise was traveling with her husband when the incident took place. During the chaos, she fell inside her cabin and sustained a punctured lung, rendering her critical. Despite efforts to stabilize her, she could not be saved, as confirmed by various Italian news sources including Il Messaggero and ANSA.
Denise hailed from Cagnano Amiterno, a small town in the Abruzzo region, and worked as a teacher in the nearby town of Pizzoli. Reports from the Italian ambassador to Cairo confirmed that there were no other injuries among the Italian passengers, indicating they were all safe.
An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the ship collision is currently underway by Egyptian authorities. Further information concerning the incident’s specifics has yet to be released, as comments sought from the Italian Embassy in Cairo and Nile Cruisers went unanswered.
