Cruise Mom Arrested for Tackling Teen on Carnival Ship: What Happened?
A 38-year-old mother from Minnesota, Paetra Ann Grandsberry, was arrested after an incident on the Carnival Conquest cruise ship. Instead of returning home following a Bahamas getaway, she found herself in trouble with the law after an altercation involving her children.
On December 22, 2025, when the ship docked at PortMiami after a three-night cruise to Celebration Key, law enforcement authorities arrested Grandsberry. Reports indicated that she became upset upon discovering that her children had been attacked by other kids onboard. While she was speaking with ship security, she mistakenly identified a group of young passengers as the aggressors and aggressively pursued one of the boys, tackling him to the ground.
The boy, who had not been involved in any altercation, managed to escape and explained to officers that he ran only because he saw others fleeing, fearing there was a safety threat. Although Grandsberry claimed her actions were unintentional, saying she "accidentally fell" on the child, the incident led to a charge of child abuse.
Upon her arrest, Grandsberry was held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center after a local judge determined there was probable cause for the charge. The specifics regarding her children’s well-being following her arrest remain unclear, nor is it known whether she faced any restrictions while on board after the incident occurred.
2025 saw a number of high-profile incidents of bad behavior on cruise ships, including a brawl in April at the Galveston Cruise Terminal involving guests from Carnival Jubilee, and another fight in June on Carnival Sunrise. Cruise lines typically discourage such conduct and may place unruly passengers on a no-boarding list for future cruises.
