Isle of Portland Port Celebrates Dual Cruise Milestones in 2025
Isle of Portland Port in the UK achieved significant milestones in 2025 by recording a record number of cruise ship calls and hosting vessels every month for the first time. The port welcomed 64 cruise ship arrivals, the highest in its history, highlighted by the December 19 arrival of the Saga ship Spirit of Discovery, which diverted there due to severe weather.
Throughout the year, nearly 100,000 passengers managed to board or disembark, contributing an estimated £10 million to the local economy through spending in various sectors like retail, dining, and excursions. Notable repeat vessels included AIDA’s AIDAsol, which made eight visits, and multiple calls from Silversea’s ships.
Moreover, several ships visited Portland for the first time in 2025, including Ocean Albatros, AIDAluna, and Carnival Miracle. The port’s diverse schedule involved major cruise lines like Saga, Princess, and Hapag-Lloyd.
To bolster its cruise capacity, Portland commissioned a £26 million deepwater berth in 2023. This development allowed the port to accommodate larger ships and a greater variety of cruise itineraries throughout 2025. The local cruise team actively promoted the port, organized familiarization visits for cruise operators, and participated in industry events to foster strategic engagement for continued growth in cruise tourism.
