Tragedy at Sea: 85-Year-Old AIDAmar Cruise Passenger Killed by Wave During Shore Excursion in Vigo, Spain
On December 18, 2025, a tragic incident occurred off the northwestern coast of Spain involving an 85-year-old German passenger from the AIDAmar cruise ship. While participating in a shore excursion near Concheira Beach, close to Baiona, the woman was swept into the sea by powerful waves.
The AIDAmar had docked at Vigo earlier in the day, and the tour group traveled by bus to the beach. Reports indicate that the woman briefly stepped away from her group of approximately 50 passengers to take photographs on nearby rocks. At around 2:30 PM, a large wave struck, pulling her into the water. A local resident witnessed the event and promptly contacted emergency services.
In response, maritime rescue units, the Galician Coast Guard, local police, and a rescue helicopter were deployed quickly. Despite their efforts, the woman’s body was later found on the shore, and medical teams were unable to revive her.
