Emergency Medvac: 56-Year-Old Female Passenger Airlifted from Costa Diadema Off Brazil

Emergency response protocols were activated on December 29 when the MS Costa Diadema reported a 56-year-old female passenger exhibiting symptoms consistent with meningitis while navigating off Brazil’s southern coast. The ship was on a voyage between Santos and Buenos Aires and requested medical assistance around 3:30 p.m. while located near the Mar Grosso area of Laguna in Santa Catarina.

The vessel maintained its position approximately half a nautical mile offshore while awaiting help. The Santa Catarina Military Fire Department was dispatched upon a request from the Laguna Port Authority to manage access to the harbor and escort a tender boat carrying the passenger to the pier.

Once ashore, the woman was met by a medical team from the Mobile Emergency Care Service for an initial evaluation before being transported via ambulance to Laguna Hospital for further assessment. Following her transfer, firefighting personnel assisted the tender back out to sea, allowing Costa Diadema to continue its voyage without delay.

As of now, no updates have been provided about the woman’s medical condition following her disembarkation.
