AIDAdiva Launches Busan’s 2026 Global Cruise Season with a Splash
Busan welcomed the AIDAdiva on January 12, 2026, marking the city’s first cruise call of the year. The ship, operated by AIDA Cruises, arrived at Busan Port with about 2,000 passengers onboard as part of its 133-day world voyage that began in Hamburg on November 20, 2025. After departing from Honolulu on January 1, AIDAdiva made its way to Busan before heading to Tokyo later that day.
The majority of passengers are European, particularly from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. During their visit, guests took part in excursions to popular local attractions, such as Beomeosa Temple, Haedong Yonggungsa, Gamcheon Culture Village, and Jagalchi Market. To celebrate the occasion, a welcoming ceremony was held at the North Port Cruise Terminal, where officials presented a commemorative plaque to the ship’s representatives along with cultural performances highlighting traditional and contemporary Korean arts.
This arrival is seen by local officials as a significant step in expanding Busan’s cruise market beyond Northeast Asia. In line with this goal, the port aims to enhance its international cruise profile, building on previous efforts like the operation of MSC Bellissima as a semi-homeport in 2025. Plans include upgrades to cruise infrastructure, improved shore excursions, and better visitor services throughout 2026.
With fresh demand, especially from the Chinese market, the port anticipates a boost in cruise activity, projecting around 420 cruise calls and nearly 900,000 passengers by the end of the year.
