Astro Ocean Cruise’s Piano Land Sets Sail from Hong Kong After Successful Malaysia Season
Astro Ocean Cruise’s ship Piano Land has recently returned to Hong Kong, marking a significant milestone as it brought approximately 1,700 passengers—making it the largest group of international travelers the company has welcomed to the city. This arrival follows its season in Malaysia, where the ship was part of a dual-homeport program that included itineraries to both Malaysia and Thailand.
The cruise attracted travelers from various locations in South-east Asia, including Malaysia and Singapore. This event holds special significance for both Astro Ocean Cruise and Hong Kong’s cruise industry, as Piano Land is distinguished as the first Chinese-branded cruise ship to facilitate international passenger arrivals at such scale. The company views this as a strong signal of its confidence in the ongoing potential for growth in cruise tourism within Hong Kong and the wider Greater Bay Area.
Looking forward, Piano Land is set to establish a dedicated homeport season in Hong Kong during 2026, featuring a variety of itineraries spanning from four to twelve nights across South-east Asia. Scheduled ports of call will include destinations like Brunei, Sihanoukville in Cambodia, Kota Kinabalu in Malaysia, Manila and Subic in the Philippines, and several ports in Vietnam, including Chan May, Danang, Halong Bay, Nha Trang, and Phu My.
Piano Land is operated by Astro Ocean Cruise, a subsidiary of China Cruises International, and is headquartered in Hong Kong. The vessel itself is a 70,000 gross tonne ship, boasting 13 decks with a total of 880 cabins, accommodating up to 2,014 passengers. Constructed by Meyer Werft in Germany, Piano Land commenced its homeport operations in Hong Kong in April 2025 and later began servicing from Malaysia on November 29, 2025, becoming the first Chinese-branded cruise line to operate international homeport services.
