Dozens of Cruise Cabins Flooded After Pipe Burst on MSC Ship: What You Need to Know!

Some guests aboard the MSC Seaview faced an unexpected Monday morning on January 12, 2026, when a pipe related to the fire safety system burst, flooding Deck 10. The incident occurred around 7:45 a.m. and led to water entering multiple cabins and hallways, with reports of water levels reaching up to ankle height in some areas.

Approximately 40 cabins were directly affected, displacing families, including those traveling with young children and elderly passengers. The ship had begun its journey just two days prior, departing from Santos, Brazil, on January 10 for a 7-night South American cruise and was en route to Salvador de Bahia.

Fortunately, the ship’s engineering team responded swiftly. Within a few hours, they identified and repaired the leak, and the situation was managed with minimal disruption. According to MSC Cruises, “A leak was identified in a water pipe that is part of the ship’s fire safety system, resulting in water entering some guest cabins and a common area corridor. The problem was quickly resolved by our technical teams, and all affected areas underwent thorough cleaning.”

During the remediation, guests were temporarily relocated, with many waiting in a bar on Deck 8. To mitigate their inconvenience, MSC offered each affected cabin $150 for the disturbance and directed passengers to report any damaged personal items to guest services for potential reimbursement.

The incident was effectively contained, allowing other areas of the ship to continue normal operations. Upon the ship’s arrival in Maceio, Brazil, the Port Authority conducted an additional inspection of the pipe systems as a precaution.

Though incidents of flooding can happen on cruise ships, they remain relatively rare. The MSC Seaview itself does not have a history of recurrent flooding issues, but a similar incident did occur shortly after the ship’s launch in 2018 when a pipe burst during a Mediterranean voyage, which also resulted in quick repairs.
