Atlas Ocean Voyages Unveils the Atlas Adventurer: A New Luxury Sailing Experience Built in China
Atlas Ocean Voyages (AOV) has officially started construction on its first luxury expedition sailing yacht, the Atlas Adventurer, at a shipyard in China. This marks a notable step in AOV’s expansion within the high-end expedition cruise market.
The Atlas Adventurer will be designed as an eco-friendly exploration yacht that blends mechanical propulsion with wind-assisted sailing. The innovative design includes three carbon masts outfitted with solid sails to enhance operational efficiency, enabling zero-emission and quiet navigation in favorable conditions. This aligns with AOV’s commitment to meet stricter environmental standards and upcoming regulatory requirements in expedition cruising.
The vessel is expected to stretch approximately 690 ft and weigh around 26,000 gross tons. It will utilize a dual-fuel, electric-hybrid propulsion system supported by a 9-megawatt marine battery, allowing it to operate with reduced noise and emissions. Key technical features include an Ice Class 1B certification, which will enable it to navigate various climates, including polar regions.
The new ship is part of AOV’s strategic plan to explore areas not previously accessible with its existing fleet while maintaining a focus on small-ship luxury experiences and premium onboard service. Capable of accommodating up to 400 guests alongside a crew of roughly 275, all accommodations will be suite-style, and the ship will feature larger public spaces compared to other vessels in the fleet.
Amenities planned for the Atlas Adventurer include seven dining options, a wellness center, and various social lounges. The yacht will also have a marina platform with an ocean pool, Zodiacs, and luxury motorboats for exploration activities.
The Atlas Adventurer is set to embark on its first itineraries in late 2028, covering destinations across Asia and Africa, such as Japan and regions of the western Indian Ocean, focusing on less frequented locales.
