Atlas Ocean Voyages Unveils Plans for the Atlas Adventurer: A New Sailing Ship Crafted in China

Atlas Ocean Voyages (AOV) is making significant strides in the luxury expedition sector by constructing its first sailing yacht, the Atlas Adventurer, at a shipyard in China. This vessel is a new addition to AOV’s fleet and introduces a hybrid propulsion system aimed at minimizing emissions and enhancing operational efficiency.

The Atlas Adventurer is designed to offer a unique sailing experience through a combination of mechanical propulsion and wind-assisted sailing, featuring three carbon masts with solid sails. This cutting-edge design not only gives the ship an environmentally friendly profile but also enables it to operate quietly and, when conditions allow, navigate without emissions.

With a length of about 690 feet (210 meters) and a gross tonnage of 26,000, the vessel is outfitted with a dual-fuel, electric-hybrid propulsion system supported by a 9-megawatt marine battery. This setup allows for both sailing-assisted and powered operations while significantly reducing noise and emissions. The ship also comes equipped with advanced stabilization technology and is certified for ice navigation, thus permitting it to sail in diverse climates and remote regions.

The introduction of the Atlas Adventurer signifies AOV’s commitment to exploring new destinations that were previously inaccessible, reinforcing its position in the luxury expedition market. Designed to accommodate up to 400 passengers supported by a crew of approximately 275, the superyacht will provide all-suite accommodations and expanded public areas compared to its current offerings.

Onboard amenities are set to include various dining venues, wellness and fitness facilities, and social lounges that align with the boutique expedition cruising model. There will be seven dining options, among them specialty restaurants and a culinary studio, as well as multiple lounges and bars. The vessel will also boast a wellness center, a large swimming pool, and dedicated expedition infrastructure, including Zodiacs and luxury motorboats.

Scheduled to begin operations in late 2028, the Atlas Adventurer will sail itineraries across Asia and Africa, including regions such as Japan, Southeast Asia, and the western Indian Ocean. These journeys will reflect AOV’s focus on offering exploration of less-visited and environmentally sensitive areas, all while meeting modern sustainability and regulatory standards.

Further details regarding accommodation, onboard programming, and specific itineraries will emerge as construction progresses.
