Rescue Efforts Underway After Passenger Goes Overboard from Windstar’s Star Breeze in the Marquesas
A passenger overboard incident occurred on the Windstar Cruises ship, Star Breeze, while it was navigating near the Marquesas Islands in French Polynesia during a 14-day Tahiti itinerary. The ship raised a Code Oscar alert after discovering a passenger was missing.
Preliminary reports suggest that the 66-year-old U.S. citizen fell overboard around 2:00 a.m., with indications pointing towards a domestic dispute prior to the incident. However, the exact details remain under investigation and are not yet confirmed by authorities.
In response to the situation, maritime authorities were alerted, and a search operation commenced. The French Navy patrol vessel Gardian arrived on the scene around 8:00 a.m. to provide assistance.
After the initial search efforts, Star Breeze continued to its next port, Hiva Oa, where local police boarded the ship to conduct interviews as part of the ongoing investigation into the incident.
