Seabourn Venture Sets New Southern Milestones on Antarctic Exploration Voyage
During its 12-day Antarctica Exploration voyage from January 28 to February 9, 2026, the Seabourn Venture achieved remarkable new southern milestones, marking significant advancements for both Seabourn and the Carnival Corporation fleet.
On this expedition into the deep southern latitudes, Seabourn Venture crossed the Antarctic Circle and reached approximately 70° South, the furthest southern point achieved in the company’s operational history. This journey encompassed areas of the Antarctic Peninsula that are rarely included in traditional cruise itineraries.
Notably, the voyage marked Seabourn’s first extensive navigation into George VI Sound, a wide channel situated to the west of Alexander Island, taking the ship beyond the more common routes near the peninsula. At around 69° 30′ South, passengers were brought ashore onto the Antarctic sea ice, marking the most southern landing ever made under Seabourn’s flag. This event was celebrated with a ceremonial gathering on the ice floe. Other exciting stops included Historic Base E on Stonington Island, once a British research station showcasing mid-20th-century scientific endeavors in the region.
Guided by Captain Simon Bishop and supported by the ship’s expedition team, Seabourn Venture combined high-latitude navigation with ice-edge operations using Zodiacs and polar specialists. This venture not only set new records for southern exploration but also enhanced understanding of the region’s ice conditions and geographical features.
