Carnival Cruises Faces Major Disruptions Due to Widespread Tech Issues, Causing Delays for Multiple Ships
Carnival Cruise Line is currently facing significant technology issues that have led to embarkation delays for three of its ships on the morning of February 9, 2026. The affected vessels are the Carnival Breeze, Carnival Glory, and Carnival Freedom, with problems impacting the fleet widely.
These technology difficulties are not only disrupting embarkation but are also affecting onboard systems, including preventing departing guests from collecting their Sail and Sign cards, which many passengers cherish as souvenirs of their cruise experience.
Embarkation Delays
Carnival has requested that incoming guests adjust their arrival times at cruise terminals due to these complications. In notifications sent via email, text alerts, and phone calls, the cruise line advised guests to arrive two hours later than their originally scheduled Terminal Arrival Appointment. For instance, if a guest had a check-in time from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM, they should now plan to arrive between 1:00 PM and 1:30 PM. All guests are required to be on board by 4:30 PM to ensure timely departures.
The specific itineraries affected include:
- Carnival Breeze: 5-night Western Caribbean sailing from Galveston to Cozumel and Progreso.
- Carnival Glory: 4-night Bahamas cruise from Port Canaveral to Nassau and Celebration Key.
- Carnival Freedom: 5-night Bahamas cruise from Port Canaveral to Celebration Key, Nassau, and Half Moon Cay.
As of now, only embarkation and debarkation operations are experiencing delays, and there are no modifications to the planned ports of call. However, if the situation worsens, itinerary changes may become necessary. Passengers are encouraged to opt in for Carnival text alerts to stay updated on any developments.
Debarkation Issues
The technical difficulties also complicate the debarkation process, as a manual count of guests is needed to ensure safe departures. This situation slows down the debarking process, as Sail and Sign cards are being collected rather than rapidly scanned and returned to guests. Travelers have expressed disappointment as these cards can serve as unique mementos, featuring details like ship name and cruise dates.
Carnival’s brand ambassador, John Heald, addressed concerns from upset guests, stating, “I know many of you keep these as a souvenir, but we can’t reprint them for security reasons.”
Broader Impact on Carnival Operations
In addition to affecting embarkation and debarkation, the tech issues are impacting essential safety and navigation systems. Carnival’s technology teams are prioritizing the resolution of these problems to ensure that the safety systems are functioning properly before ships depart from their homeports. Guests have also reported difficulties with the Carnival Hub app, facing glitches and frequent disconnections.
Despite these setbacks, onboard activities related to dining, entertainment, and other experiences remain largely unaffected. Guests are still able to enjoy their time aboard the ships as the cruise line works to resolve the ongoing technical issues.
