Keel Laid for Oceania Sonata at Fincantieri Shipyard in Marghera: A Milestone in Luxury Cruising

At the Fincantieri shipyard in Marghera, Italy, the keel of Oceania Sonata has been laid, marking a significant milestone in its construction. This traditional ceremony highlights the importance of keel laying within the shipbuilding process and celebrates the collaborative efforts of Oceania Cruises and Fincantieri.

In attendance were representatives from Oceania Cruises, its parent company Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, and senior management from Fincantieri. Company officials highlighted that this event symbolizes the combined technical expertise of naval architects, engineers, designers, and shipyard workers who have brought the project to its current stage.

Oceania’s leadership described the keel laying as a testament to their ongoing fleet expansion and their operational strategy within the cruise industry. Fincantieri’s management noted that the construction of Oceania Sonata benefits from the builder’s extensive experience with previous classes of vessels for Oceania, enhancing standards in shipbuilding and outfitting.

Set for its maiden voyage in August 2027, Oceania Sonata will be the ninth addition to the Oceania fleet, with plans for three sister ships to follow: Oceania Arietta in 2029, and two more planned for delivery in 2032 and 2035. Each new ship will have a gross tonnage of approximately 86,000 GT and accommodate a maximum of 1,390 passengers, with a third of the staterooms classified as suites, including the luxurious two-bedroom Owner’s Suites and newly designed Horizon and Penthouse Deluxe Suites.

Oceania Sonata will feature nine diverse dining options, including Nikkei Kitchen, which offers a blend of Peruvian and Japanese cuisine, and La Table, a French restaurant. The recent keel laying aligns with the vessel’s construction timeline, advancing toward its scheduled delivery and integration into Oceania’s operational plans.
