Mooring Incident at Ocean Cay: What Happened with MSC Seaside?
During a scheduled visit to MSC Cruises’ private island, Ocean Cay, on February 5, 2026, the MSC Seaside faced challenging mooring conditions due to strong winds. This resulted in several securing ropes breaking, causing the vessel’s forward section to drift away from the pier while some passengers were still disembarking. Although the stern remained secured to the dock, disembarking passengers could not return to the ship until the situation was stabilized.
The ship’s bridge team quickly responded by engaging the bow thrusters, successfully maneuvering the vessel back into the correct position alongside the quay. Once the ship was secured, the gangway was re-established, allowing passengers to board safely. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported, and evaluations indicated no significant structural damage to either the ship or the pier.
At that time, MSC Seaside was conducting a brief roundtrip sailing itinerary from Miami, with sailings scheduled from February 2 to February 6, 2026. The voyage concluded as planned, with the ship returning to Miami the following day.
