Heritage Expeditions Welcomes Heritage Discoverer: A New Era for Exploration
Heritage Expeditions, a small-ship expedition cruise operator based in New Zealand, has recently taken delivery of its latest vessel, the Heritage Discoverer. This ship, which was previously known as the Silver Explorer and Exploris One, will join Heritage Expeditions’ fleet and is set to begin operations in May 2027. The acquisition aligns with the company’s expedition ethos, allowing access to remote regions, from polar waters to tropical islands.
The Heritage Discoverer is equipped with high ice-class capabilities, making it suitable for operations in both Arctic and Antarctic waters, as well as access to coastal areas that larger vessels cannot reach. This new addition enhances Heritage Expeditions’ commitment to offering authentic expedition itineraries alongside its existing ships, the Heritage Adventurer and Heritage Explorer.
Designed for a team of 130 expeditioners, the vessel is equipped with Zodiacs to maximize shore landings and exploration. Recent renovations completed in 2023 and 2026 have modernized passenger accommodations and public spaces, providing ocean-view staterooms and suites, dining areas, lounges, observation decks, and a medical center, all in line with contemporary expedition standards.
Details of Heritage Discoverer’s maiden voyage are expected to be announced soon, with preliminary sailings planned in both the Arctic and Antarctic for its inaugural season under new management.
