Heritage Expeditions, a small-ship expedition cruise company based in New Zealand, has recently acquired its latest and most luxurious vessel, which will be named Heritage Discoverer. Set to debut in May 2027, this ship was formerly known as Silver Explorer and Exploris One, and its acquisition marks a significant step in aligning with the company’s commitment to authentic expedition experiences.
The new vessel will join the ranks of the company’s existing fleet members, Heritage Adventurer and Heritage Explorer, emphasizing the company’s focus on real expedition itineraries. Designed with an ice-class hull, Heritage Discoverer is capable of operating in polar regions and accessing remote coastal areas that larger ships cannot reach.
Heritage Expeditions aims to expand its operational scope while maintaining its legacy of immersive travel. The ship will support up to 130 guests, accompanied by a specialized team and a fleet of Zodiac boats which enhance shore landings and exploration abilities.
Recent enhancements made to the vessel in 2023 and 2026 have modernized passenger accommodations and communal areas, ensuring that the standards meet those expected of contemporary expedition vessels. All 72 passenger staterooms, dining areas, lounges, and medical facilities have been upgraded.
Details regarding the ship’s maiden voyage will be announced soon, with initial departures already planned for Arctic and Antarctic regions as part of the vessel’s inaugural season under new management.
