Scenic Group Expands Its Fleet: Introducing Three New River Ships
Scenic Group has announced the expansion of its river cruise fleet with the addition of three new vessels, signaling the company’s commitment to meet growing demand for luxury river cruising. The new ships will enhance the offerings of its brands, Emerald Cruises and Scenic Luxury Cruises & Tours.
The first ship, Emerald Nova, is slated to commence operations in June 2027 on the Douro River in Portugal, where it will share the waterways with the existing Emerald Radiance. Two itineraries will be available for travelers.
Following this, Scenic Aria will make its debut in September 2027, also on the Douro River, joining Scenic Azure to provide the company’s established itineraries in the area.
The third vessel, Scenic Spirit II, is set to begin service in early 2028 on the Mekong River, offering journeys through Southeast Asia, particularly between Vietnam and Cambodia.
Pre-sales for Emerald Nova and Scenic Aria have already launched, and interested travelers can currently pre-register for Scenic Spirit II.
This fleet expansion is a part of Scenic’s broader growth strategy, which also includes the introduction of the Emerald Astra on the Rhine, Main, and Danube rivers in May 2026, and Emerald Lumi, which is expected to debut on the Seine River in 2027.
Furthermore, the Scenic Group is also enhancing its yacht segment with new vessels such as Emerald Kaia in April 2026, followed by Emerald Raiya and Emerald Xara in subsequent years. An ocean vessel, Scenic Ikon, is also under construction, aiming for delivery in 2028.
Founder and chairman Glen Moroney expressed confidence in the luxury river cruising market, stating that these new projects reflect the company’s strategic vision, with designs developed by its own shipbuilding division, MKM Yachts, leveraging decades of expertise.
