Technical Glitch on Stena Adventurer Causes Disruption to Dublin–Holyhead Ferry Services
The Stena Adventurer encountered a technical issue while docked in Holyhead, leading to the cancellation and delay of several ferry crossings between Dublin and Holyhead. The ferry was set to leave Holyhead at 10:00 a.m., but a problem was discovered, causing it to be grounded and subsequent sailings to be disrupted.
Passengers who had boarded the ship were ultimately instructed to disembark as the crew worked to resolve the situation. The presence of the disabled vessel created operational challenges at the port, preventing other ferries from docking and exacerbating further delays in scheduled services.
Both Stena Line and Irish Ferries experienced significant disruptions due to these operational constraints. A scheduled sailing from Dublin to Holyhead at 10:15 a.m. was altered, redirecting to Birkenhead Port near Liverpool, with arrangements made to transfer passengers by coach from there.
As a result, several additional sailings between the two ports faced cancellations or delays. Irish Ferries confirmed that four of its services departing from Dublin and three heading in the opposite direction were impacted.
Passengers aboard the Stena Adventurer remained on the ship until mid-afternoon before they were asked to leave. Many chose to wait at the port for updates regarding alternative travel options and revised schedules.
This disruption occurred at a peak travel time, as many passengers were returning to Wales after attending the Six Nations rugby match in Dublin, while others were traveling to the upcoming Cheltenham Festival set to start the following week.
