Norwegian Luna Sets Sail: NCL’s Newest Ship Debuts with Transatlantic Repositioning Cruise

Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) has introduced its latest vessel, the Norwegian Luna, which embarked on its first transatlantic cruise on March 10, 2026. The ship’s inaugural journey began in Civitavecchia, Rome, and it is set to arrive in Miami on March 23, marking its debut in the United States.

The architecture of Norwegian Luna emphasizes modern design, featuring open deck areas and spacious public zones intended to enhance passenger mobility and provide scenic ocean views. Marc Kazlauskas, NCL’s President, expressed that the ship embodies the company’s vision for contemporary cruise design, boasting exterior deck spaces, retreats, and diverse entertainment and dining options that connect passengers to the sea.

Norwegian Luna is a sister ship to Norwegian Aqua and features exciting new attractions, including the Aqua Slidecoaster—a unique blend of waterslide and roller coaster, recognized by the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions as the Best Water Park Ride. The ship also caters to families with installations like Luna Midway, an old-school carnival game area, Moon Climber, a multi-level obstacle course, and Horizon Park, equipped with lawn games.

Guests can look forward to wellness and leisure at the Mandara Spa, which spans two levels and includes treatment areas with panoramic ocean views. The Vibe Beach Club is an adults-only sun deck that provides loungers and bar service. Accommodations range from studio cabins to luxury suites, with exclusive amenities in The Haven by Norwegian, which encompasses a private restaurant, lounge, and sundeck along with tailored butler services.

Onboard entertainment includes multiple productions such as "Elton: A Celebration of Elton John" and "HIKO: Innovation Meets Wonder." Dining options feature various complimentary venues, alongside specialty restaurants like Sukhothai (Thai cuisine) and Onda by Scarpetta (Italian fare).

The ship’s Miami arrival will be celebrated with a christening ceremony on March 27, 2026, following which it will start its regular cruises. Initial itineraries comprise three- and four-day trips to the Bahamas and seven-day journeys through the Eastern Caribbean, with visits to ports like Puerto Plata and St. Thomas USVI, and return stops at NCL’s private destinations, Great Stirrup Cay and Harvest Caye. Significant enhancements are underway at these private islands, including a new pier and waterpark facilities expected to open in summer 2026.

Transitioning to Western Caribbean routes in November 2026, Norwegian Luna will visit locations such as Roatán and Cozumel. Plans for April 2027 include homeporting in New York City, from where it will offer cruises to Bermuda with extended stays at the Royal Naval Dockyard.
