Princess Cruises Expands Southern Caribbean Operations with New Barbados Homeport
Princess Cruises is set to enhance its Southern Caribbean offerings for the 2027 and 2028 seasons by introducing Bridgetown, Barbados, as a new homeport. This addition supports existing departures from San Juan, Puerto Rico, and marks a return to Barbados for cruise embarkation, expanding choices for travelers on roundtrip Caribbean voyages.
Beginning in early 2027, the program will feature over 30 sailings to about 15 Southern Caribbean destinations. Passengers can choose between embarking in Barbados or San Juan, with the itineraries primarily spanning 6 to 9 nights, focusing on 7-night cruises. Ports of call will feature a mix of both well-known and lesser-visited locations, including Antigua, Dominica, Grenada, Martinique, St. Lucia, St. Kitts, Tortola, and St. Thomas.
The new homeport aims to enhance accessibility for international travelers, particularly those coming from Europe, by providing direct flights to Barbados from major UK airports. This will simplify the embarkation experience for those who might otherwise have to transit through the United States.
Two vessels from Princess Cruises’ fleet will be utilized for this deployment. The Crown Princess is scheduled to operate from Barbados between January and March 2027, offering several 7-night itineraries. Following that, the Emerald Princess will take over the program from November 2027 through March 2028, featuring journeys during the Christmas and New Year period.
For example, a proposed itinerary for Crown Princess includes a 7-night roundtrip journey departing from Barbados in March 2027, with planned visits to San Juan, St. Thomas, St. Maarten, Dominica, and Grenada. The Emerald Princess will offer similar routes for its winter schedule, including additional holiday sailings.
To support the new program, Princess Cruises will provide an integrated air and cruise booking option for passengers, which accommodates potential delayed arrivals to ensure travelers can seamlessly board their ship.
The introduction of Barbados as a homeport signifies an important step in Princess Cruises’ Caribbean strategy, offering greater flexibility for travelers while establishing the Southern Caribbean as a focal point for its winter operations.
