Introducing the Longship Viking Eldir: The Newest Addition to Viking River Cruises’ Fleet

Viking River Cruises has recently taken delivery of the Longship Viking Eldir, a new addition to its fleet designed specifically for European river navigation. Constructed at Neptun Werft in Rostock-Warnemünde, this vessel will operate along major waterways including the Rhine, Main, and Danube rivers.

The Viking Eldir can accommodate up to 190 passengers across 95 staterooms, joining a growing number of sister ships that enhance Viking’s presence in river cruising. Torstein Hagen, the company’s Chairman and CEO, emphasized that this new ship aligns with their ongoing fleet expansion strategy, which aims to offer travelers closer access to key destinations along Europe’s rivers through conveniently situated docking facilities.

The ship boasts several signature elements of Viking’s Longship design, including a square bow for increased interior space, three passenger decks, an indoor-outdoor Aquavit Terrace, an asymmetric corridor layout, and two-room suite accommodations. Its itineraries will feature popular routes such as the Rhine Getaway, Grand European Tour, and Christmas on the Rhine.

This delivery is part of Viking’s broader fleet expansion program, with plans to add 22 additional river vessels by 2028, along with 10 ocean-going ships and two expedition vessels expected by 2031. Once completed, the fleet will consist of 112 river ships and a total of 25 ocean and expedition vessels.
