Hapag-Lloyd Cruises is continuing its limited-capacity Amazon cruises, a unique expedition that will run through 2028. The Amazon River, with its challenging navigational routes and remote regions, presents opportunities for expedition travel that are rarely exploited by mainstream cruise lines.
Each year, Hapag-Lloyd operates two specialized expedition cruises that traverse the river from Belém at the delta to Iquitos in Peru, covering approximately 4,000 kilometers. This journey, noted for its technical challenges, departed on March 11, 2026, aboard the expedition vessel HANSEATIC Spirit for an 18-day adventure.
The Amazon’s environment is rich in natural beauty and cultural diversity, prompting Hapag-Lloyd to tailor its expeditions for in-depth exploration and engagement. The small vessels are designed for agility in the region’s narrow waterways and variable conditions, enabling meaningful interactions with local communities and wildlife.
