Cruise Lines’ Long-Term Dedication to the Arabian Gulf Amid Short-Term Adjustments

Despite recent changes in deployment impacting the winter 2026-2027 cruise season, major cruise operators are still expressing their long-term commitment to the Arabian Gulf as a winter destination. Notably, several itineraries have already been opened for bookings for the 2027-2028 season.

Operators such as Costa Cruises and AIDA Cruises have decided to withdraw their vessels from the region for 2026-2027 as a precautionary measure. Their ships will be reassigned to European and Atlantic itineraries to enhance certainty for passengers and stakeholders amid an unpredictable regional environment.

Although this season will see some cruise lines reducing their presence, future deployment plans indicate the Arabian Gulf’s significance remains intact. Multiple cruise operators already have plans in place for the 2027-2028 season, still centering on Dubai and Abu Dhabi as primary homeports.

Among those returning, AIDA Cruises plans to ignite interest with the vessel AIDAperla, set to offer 7-night voyages from Dubai and Abu Dhabi, along with extended itineraries including Omani destinations. Bookings for these voyages are already available from December through early spring.

MSC Cruises is also continuing its operations in the Arabian Gulf, featuring the ship MSC World Europa, which will provide weekly 7-night itineraries that connect various ports throughout the Gulf.

In the luxury segment, Explora Journeys has opened bookings for voyages aboard Explora I, which will depart from Dubai and explore various destinations throughout the Gulf and Oman. Additionally, Celestyal Cruises is offering its “Desert Days” program aboard Celestyal Journey with roundtrip sailings from regional ports.

Further into the season, cruises from Silversea Cruises featuring Silver Shadow, Crystal Cruises with Crystal Symphony, and Oceania Cruises aboard Vista will also debut from Dubai, connecting the Gulf with itineraries in the Mediterranean, Africa, and the Indian Ocean.

Over the last ten years, the Arabian Gulf has become an essential seasonal market for the cruise industry, bolstered by modern port infrastructures in locations like Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Doha. The winter cruise season typically spans from November to April, offering an attractive deployment option for vessels transitioning between Europe and Asia.
