Disney Cruise Line Reveals Name of Upcoming Ship Set to Launch Next Year
Disney Cruise Line has officially named its upcoming Wish-class ship, set to set sail in late 2027. The new vessel will be called Disney Believe, a name announced by the new Walt Disney Co. CEO, Josh D’Amaro, during his first day in the role at the annual shareholders meeting.
The name honors "the dreamers and doers who dare to pursue their own happily ever after," as stated in a press release. Each ship in this class follows a specific theme—Disney Wish encapsulates enchantment, Disney Treasure captures adventure, and Disney Destiny relates to heroes and villains. In this spirit, Disney Believe is said to be a ship filled with powerful stories reflecting the ideals of self-belief and the promise of a brighter future.
Construction of the ship is ongoing at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany, where it had its first steel cut last August. Typically weighing in at 144,000 gross tons, the Wish-class ships can accommodate around 4,000 passengers and slightly exceed the older Disney Dream and Fantasy in size.
Though specific attractions and features aboard this new ship have yet to be revealed, Disney teased that it would showcase beloved characters and films. The ship will bring to life the magical worlds of Encanto, Frozen, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Moana, and The Little Mermaid, weaving their narratives into various experiences throughout the ship.
With Disney Believe being the ninth ship in the fleet, Disney Cruise Line has plans for four additional ships to debut before 2031, including another Wish-class vessel in 2029. This upcoming ship will result from a partnership with Oriental Land Co., which manages Tokyo Disneyland.
Disney Cruise Line, established in 1998, began with Disney Magic and subsequently expanded its fleet with the addition of Disney Wonder, Disney Dream, and Disney Fantasy. Most vessels initially set off from Port Canaveral, although the more recent Disney Destiny began its operations from Port Everglades to diversify the routes.
