TUI Cruises Enhances Southern Africa Presence with New Cape Town Winter Deployment
TUI Cruises is set to expand its presence in Southern Africa during the winter 2027-2028 season by deploying the ship Mein Schiff 5 for a series of roundtrip voyages from Cape Town, starting in November 2027.
The ship will remain in the region throughout the southern hemisphere summer, offering a variety of 14-day itineraries that will depart from and return to Cape Town. These voyages will connect South African ports, including Gqeberha, Durban, and Richards Bay, with popular destinations across the Indian Ocean, such as Mauritius and Réunion. Some itineraries are also expected to include stops in Namibia as part of repositioning efforts and extended voyages.
This initiative highlights Cape Town’s growing significance as a turnaround port for international cruise operators, with its strategic location at Africa’s southern tip making it a prime summer base for ships navigating between the Atlantic and Indian Ocean routes.
TUI’s South Africa deployment is part of a wider winter 2027-2028 schedule that includes various ships from the Mein Schiff fleet across seasonal markets like the Caribbean, Canaria Islands, Asia, and Northern Europe.
In the Caribbean, vessels such as Mein Schiff 1 will operate extended itineraries from North America to the region, including routes from Miami to Puerto Rico with additional stops at the ABC Islands. Other ships, like Mein Schiff 3 and Mein Schiff 4, will continue to provide connections between popular Caribbean destinations like Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, Saint Lucia, Martinique, and Antigua.
Mein Schiff 2 is expected to commence the winter season in Northern Europe before moving to warmer climates. This ship will feature both shorter and extended sailings, including a notable 35-day voyage from Northern Europe to the Caribbean via the Canary Islands and Madeira.
Further expansion will also occur in Asia, with Mein Schiff 6 repositioning through Africa before offering a selection of two-week cruises in Southeast Asia, which will include itineraries to Singapore and destinations in Thailand, Malaysia, and Vietnam.
In the Atlantic islands region, Mein Schiff 7 and Mein Schiff Relax are scheduled for 7- to 11-night cruises around the Canary Islands commencing in late October 2027, focusing on island-hopping routes that will also visit Morocco, the Azores, and Cape Verde.
Pricing for TUI Cruises’ winter itineraries will vary based on the length and specific route, with entry-level fares starting around EUR 729 for a 7-night cruise in the Canary Islands, and approximately EUR 2,079 per person for longer 14-night itineraries in Northern Europe.
