Two Japanese Passengers Medivaced from Pacific World During Singapore–Taiwan Cruise
Two Japanese passengers aboard the cruise ship Pacific World were medevaced on March 23, 2026, while en route from Singapore to Taiwan. The emergency arose when an 84-year-old man fell critically ill with severe pneumonia that quickly led to respiratory failure, thus requiring urgent medical intervention and mechanical ventilation.
Shortly after, another passenger, a 79-year-old woman, began having serious breathing difficulties. Due to the escalating nature of these medical emergencies, the cruise ship sought assistance from local coastal rescue services.
The Vietnamese Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre responded by dispatching the rescue vessel SAR 272 from Ho Chi Minh City, along with a medical team. The rescue ship intercepted the Pacific World while it continued in the regional waters. By early afternoon, medical personnel boarded the cruise ship to provide emergency treatment, then transported both patients to the rescue vessel, continuously monitoring and resuscitating them during the journey back to land.
Later that day, the SAR 272 arrived at the harbor of the regional rescue center, where the patients were transferred to local authorities and taken to nearby hospitals for further medical care.
