Havila Voyages Launches Lofoten Stopover: Enjoy a Hotel Stay in Svolvaer on the Norwegian Coastal Route
Havila Voyages has unveiled a new travel concept called the "Lofoten Coastal Stopover." This innovative offering merges a traditional coastal ferry cruise with a multi-day stay in the stunning Lofoten archipelago, developed in partnership with Thon Hotel Svolvaer.
Passengers traveling southbound from Kirkenes along Norway’s Coastal Route can disembark in Svolvaer to enjoy a stay of 2 or 3 nights before continuing their journey on the next scheduled Havila ferry. This seamless transition allows passengers to stay in the same cabin category they originally booked, ensuring their voyage remains uninterrupted.
This new offering represents a shift from the standard coastal voyages, which typically involve quick port calls and separate arrangements for extended land experiences. By incorporating the stopover directly into the itinerary, travelers can pause their journey to fully experience the beauty and culture of Lofoten.
The management at Havila highlighted that this concept is a response to changing travel preferences, with a growing number of visitors seeking longer, more immersive stays at destinations. The Lofoten Coastal Stopover was designed to cater to this demand, providing travelers more time to explore the landscapes, culture, and cuisine of the islands.
During the stopover, guests will stay at Thon Hotel Svolvaer, located conveniently near the harbor. They will have access to a digital booking platform that offers local excursions, such as sea-eagle safaris, kayaking, and mountain hiking, along with cultural activities connected to the region’s rich fishing tradition.
Hotel representatives expressed that their partnership with Havila Voyages would allow visitors to enjoy the Lofoten experience at a leisurely pace while also benefiting the local economy by promoting engagement with nearby businesses and attractions.
Bookings for the Lofoten Coastal Stopover began in week 12 of the sales cycle, with the first sailings set to commence in May 2026. This program also marks the introduction of a broader initiative by Havila, which plans to develop similar arrangements for longer stays in ports along the Norwegian coastline.
