Exciting Progress at Carnival Festivale: Engine Installation Commences at Meyer Werft!
Work is progressing on the new cruise ship Carnival Festivale at Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany, where the installation of the main engines has commenced. This innovative vessel, slated for delivery in spring 2027, is part of Carnival Cruise Line’s latest generation of large passenger ships.
Key construction milestones have already been reached, including the laying of the keel in August 2025 at Papenburg, a traditional maritime ceremony that included the placement of commemorative coins under the keel block. Recently, the installation of LNG storage tanks has been completed, which are essential for the ship’s gas-powered propulsion system.
As the hull structure advances in the building dock, the forward section, including the bridge area, is largely assembled. Work continues on the midship and aft blocks to complete the overall structure. Once the steel construction phase is finalized, focus will switch to outfitting the ship, where prefabricated passenger cabins will be installed, followed by the construction of public spaces and technical systems.
The Carnival Festivale will be approximately 344 meters long and will weigh around 180,000 gross tons, accommodating more than 6,400 passengers. This ship is part of the Excel-class series, which also includes Mardi Gras, Carnival Celebration, and Carnival Jubilee.
Upon completion, the ship is expected to start its service with a transatlantic voyage from Southampton to Port Canaveral in Florida, beginning in May 2027. It will then operate regular week-long Caribbean itineraries and introduce several new onboard concepts, including music and entertainment venues along with expanded family-oriented areas, marking an evolution in Carnival’s Excel-class design and the company’s commitment to enhancing its LNG-powered fleet.
