Medevac Emergency: Two Japanese Passengers Rescued from Pacific World during Singapore-Taiwan Cruise
Two passengers were evacuated from the cruise ship Pacific World during a voyage from Singapore to Taiwan on March 23, 2026. The evacuation was necessitated due to serious medical emergencies experienced by the passengers.
An 84-year-old Japanese man suffered a critical illness identified as severe pneumonia, which quickly progressed to respiratory failure, requiring urgent medical intervention. Shortly thereafter, a 79-year-old Japanese woman onboard also began experiencing severe breathing difficulties.
Upon realizing the gravity of their conditions, the ship’s crew sought assistance from coastal rescue services. The Vietnamese Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre responded by deploying the specialized rescue vessel SAR 272 from Ho Chi Minh City, along with a medical team.
The rescue vessel met Pacific World while it was continuing its journey in regional waters. By early afternoon, the rescue team arrived on the scene. Medical personnel boarded the cruise ship to provide emergency care to both patients before transferring them to the rescue craft.
As the rescue vessel made its way back to shore, the medical team maintained constant monitoring and resuscitative measures for the patients. Upon reaching the harbor at the regional rescue center, the two passengers were handed over to local authorities and transported to hospitals for further medical treatment.
