Havila Voyages Launches Lofoten Stopover: Experience a Svolvaer Hotel Stay on Norway’s Coastal Route
Havila Voyages has unveiled an innovative travel experience called the "Lofoten Coastal Stopover," merging a ferry cruise with an extended stay in the Lofoten archipelago. This new program is developed in partnership with Thon Hotel Svolvaer and integrates accommodations directly into the travel itinerary, rather than offering them as an optional add-on.
Passengers traveling south from Kirkenes along Norway’s Coastal Route can disembark in Svolvaer, where they can enjoy a 2 or 3-night hotel stay before continuing their journey on the next ferry. The benefit of this initiative is that travelers retain their originally booked cabin category, allowing for a seamless transition between the hotel and ferry.
This initiative departs from traditional coastal cruise practices, which typically involve short port calls. Instead, the stopover is designed to be part of the scheduled voyage, enabling travelers to take a break while ensuring the continuity of their overall itinerary.
Havila Voyages recognizes a shift in traveler preferences, leaning towards longer stays and more flexibility in travel. The Lofoten Coastal Stopover is a response to these evolving desires, allowing deeper engagement with the region’s stunning landscapes, culture, and culinary offerings.
During the stopover, guests will be based at Thon Hotel Svolvaer, near the harbor, where they can take advantage of a digital booking platform for local excursions. Activities include wildlife safaris, kayaking, mountain hiking, and cultural experiences related to the area’s rich fishing heritage.
The partnership with the hotel aims to offer travelers a more relaxed pace while simultaneously benefitting local businesses and tourism services. Extended stays are expected to encourage visitors to engage more extensively with the locale, enhancing the economic contributions of their travels.
Bookings for the Lofoten Coastal Stopover began in week 12 of the sales cycle, with the first trips set to launch in May 2026.
