A fire outbreak at the Port of Barcelona caused significant disruptions to cruise operations at the Ponent dock on March 29, 2026. The incident began around 1:15 p.m. when a truck caught fire, leading to flames spreading to surrounding trailers and vehicles. Emergency services responded quickly, but the blaze affected about 20 vehicles before it was contained later that afternoon, with firefighters quelling remaining hotspots into the evening.
Witnesses reported explosions during the fire, and thick, black smoke spread around the harbor, forcing authorities to restrict access to nearby areas, including routes leading to the cruise terminals. This caused delays for passengers arriving to embark on their vessels.
At the time of the fire, three cruise ships were docked: MSC Orchestra, Costa Toscana, and MSC Armonia. Some guests experienced delays as port authorities managed the flow of traffic and ensured safety around the affected areas.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and preliminary checks indicated that the containers involved did not contain hazardous materials. As access restrictions were lifted, port operations gradually resumed, though firefighting teams remained to monitor the area and prevent any further flare-ups.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by port and emergency authorities.
