Norwegian Cruise Line Celebrates the Christening of Norwegian Luna in Miami, FL
NCL-Norwegian Cruise Line has officially launched its latest ship, Norwegian Luna, with a christening ceremony at PortMiami on March 27, 2026. This event marks the ship’s formal entry into the Caribbean fleet after its transatlantic journey from Civitavecchia, Italy.
The ceremony adhered to maritime traditions, including the breaking of a champagne bottle against the ship’s hull. Over 2,000 guests attended, with a performance by the ship’s godmother and hull artist, ELLE, who crafted its iconic exterior design.
Norwegian Luna measures approximately 322 meters and accommodates approximately 3,565 passengers. It belongs to Norwegian’s Prima Plus class, featuring attractions suited for families and adults alike, such as the Aqua Slidecoaster, a unique combination of roller coaster and waterslide, along with expansive recreation and entertainment spaces.
Onboard activities will include themed performances and live shows, as well as numerous leisure facilities aimed at enhancing the overall guest experience. The ship’s design reflects NCL’s commitment to offering large-ship amenities alongside flexible vacation options.
After the christening, Norwegian Luna will embark on Caribbean and Bahamas itineraries from Miami, featuring a variety of both short and week-long cruises to popular destinations like Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic, St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Great Stirrup Cay, NCL’s private island in the Bahamas. The ship is expected to continue operations in the Caribbean through 2027, with plans to transition to Bermuda itineraries from New York, further expanding NCL’s presence in the North American cruise market.
