Six Cruise Ships Navigate the Arabian Gulf Amidst Strait of Hormuz Turbulence

Six cruise ships are currently docked in various ports across the Arabian Gulf due to disruptions in maritime traffic caused by heightened security concerns in the Strait of Hormuz. These disruptions began in late February amid escalating geopolitical tensions linked to a conflict involving Iran, leading to a halt in cruise operations and impacting repositioning voyages scheduled for the region.

The affected ships, managed by multiple international cruise lines, are stationed in major cities such as Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Doha. Local port authorities are continuing to support these vessels by providing necessary logistical and provisioning services while cruise companies adjust their deployment plans and await safer conditions for navigation through the strait.

Among the ships stranded is the MSC Euribia, which has remained in Dubai since February 27th, originally scheduled for a repositioning to Northern Europe for a summer cruise program. Similarly, two ships from Celestyal CruisesCelestyal Journey and Celestyal Discovery—are also affected, with Celestyal Journey currently in Doha and Celestyal Discovery in Dubai as they await further instructions.

TUI Cruises is facing similar challenges with its ships. Mein Schiff 4 is docked in Abu Dhabi after its journey from Dubai to Cape Town was canceled. Its sister ship, Mein Schiff 5, is also in Doha following an end to its Gulf season. The vessels are anticipated to resume operations in the Mediterranean once a safe transit route is established.

Lastly, the sixth ship, Aroya, operated by Aroya Cruises, remains in Dubai post its winter season in the Arabian Gulf, with plans to start operations in May from Jeddah.

Cruise lines in the region have prioritized safely disembarking passengers, with all guests successfully leaving the vessels. Crew members are still onboard to manage operational requirements while companies keep a close eye on the evolving situation in the Strait of Hormuz.
