Victoria Prepares to Welcome its First Cruise Ship for the 2026 Season
Victoria is set to mark the beginning of the 2026 cruise season as the Nieuw Amsterdam makes its inaugural visit on April 10. The ship is scheduled to dock at 10 a.m. and depart at 10 p.m. from Pier B at The Breakwater District in Ogden Point.
Don Krusel, interim CEO of the Greater Victoria Harbour Authority, expressed excitement over welcoming the ship, emphasizing the city’s renowned hospitality. The Nieuw Amsterdam, which can accommodate up to 2,106 guests, has a long history with Victoria, having made regular visits since 2016. For the 2026 season, it will return twice more.
This arrival signals a bustling season for Victoria, which is expected to host around 335 cruise calls, bringing in over a million passengers. To celebrate the occasion, a representative from the Songhees Nation will extend an official welcome to the captain, Bas van Dreumel, including performances by traditional dancers.
The 2026 cruise season will feature six inaugural calls, with new entries from Virgin Voyages and MSC Cruises. The season will wrap up with the National Geographic Venture making its final call on October 18.
