Teen Pleads Not Guilty to Charges of Killing Stepsister on Cruise Ship

A 16-year-old named Timothy Hudson has been charged with the murder of his stepsister, Anna Kepner, aboard a Carnival Cruise ship. He entered a not-guilty plea on Tuesday, waiving his right to appear at a scheduled arraignment in Miami federal court. Hudson, who is being prosecuted as an adult, remains free under the care of an uncle following his arrest in February, although prosecution is seeking his detention pending trial.

Anna, an 18-year-old high school cheerleader, was found dead in their shared cabin, with the cause of death ruled as mechanical asphyxia. The incident took place during a family trip in November. Hudson faces severe charges, including murder and aggravated sexual abuse, which have attracted significant media attention.

Initially, the court proceedings were confidential due to Hudson being charged as a minor, but a recent order allowed for his prosecution as an adult, lifting the veil of secrecy around the case. The court is yet to decide on whether Hudson will remain in his uncle’s custody or be held in detention while the matter progresses through the legal system.

More details on the charges can be found here.
