Royal Caribbean Expands Fleet with Orders for Icon Class 6 and 7 Ships
Royal Caribbean Group has officially placed an order for two additional Icon Class ships with Meyer Turku, designated as the sixth and seventh vessels in this series, set to be delivered in 2029 and 2030. This decision is part of a broader long-term agreement that ensures the company will have access to shipbuilding capacities until 2036. The announcement includes an already confirmed order for Icon 5, which is scheduled for delivery in 2028.
According to Jason Liberty, Chairman and CEO of Royal Caribbean Group, the Icon Class symbolizes the company’s innovative spirit and engineering excellence, pushing the boundaries of what cruising can offer. He emphasized the importance of the partnership with Meyer Turku and its contributions to the Finnish maritime industry, which benefits the local economy significantly.
Casimir Lindholm, CEO of Meyer Turku, remarked that securing the orders for the sixth and seventh ships underscores the capabilities and expertise of the Finnish maritime sector. This milestone is seen as a crucial advancement in their long-standing collaboration and efforts to enhance shipbuilding in the coming decade.
Over the past three decades, Royal Caribbean and Meyer Turku have worked closely together, resulting in the construction of 25 ships, and the shipyard plays a pivotal role in employing around 13,000 individuals while contributing over a billion euros to Finland’s economy annually.
