Star Princess Makes a Splash at the Port of Los Angeles: A New Era in Cruising Begins!

The Port of Los Angeles recently welcomed the Star Princess, the latest addition to Princess Cruises’ fleet, during its inaugural arrival on April 29, 2026. This Sphere-class ship marked its debut at San Pedro, showcasing the cruise line’s long-standing relationship with the port, which has spanned over 60 years.

Following its initial visit, the Star Princess is set to spend the summer season in Alaska and will return to Los Angeles for a series of cruises in the following months. Gene Seroka, the Port of Los Angeles Executive Director, highlighted the significance of this event, noting that Princess Cruises has been instrumental in the port’s development as the city’s hometown cruise line.

Marie Lee, Chief Marketing Officer of Princess Cruises, expressed pride in bringing the Star Princess to Los Angeles. She emphasized the port’s historical importance to the company, recalling that their first cruise journeyed from Los Angeles to the Mexican Riviera in 1965. The Star Princess promises to elevate the guest experience, providing access to popular cruise itineraries to Alaska, Mexico, the California Coast, and Hawaii.

Princess Cruises has led sailings from the Los Angeles Cruise Terminal for the past decade, amassing nearly 800 ship visits since 2015. The Star Princess is expected to return in October for a 16-day cruise through the Panama Canal. In 2027, it will offer cruises to the Mexican Riviera and Pacific Coast, returning again for another Panama Canal voyage later that year. Other vessels, including the Discovery Princess, Emerald Princess, and Crown Princess, are also scheduled to sail from Los Angeles.

In 2025, the Port of Los Angeles set a record with 241 cruise calls, welcoming 1.6 million passengers and generating around $300 million for the local economy. Every cruise ship visit contributes an estimated $1.3 million in local revenue in the vicinity of the port.
