Oceanwide Expeditions has announced the arrangement of urgent medical evacuations for three passengers from the Hondius expedition cruise ship. This decision comes following a medical emergency involving two passengers needing immediate care and the passing of another guest on May 2.
To facilitate their transport, two specialized aircraft are currently en route to Cape Verde, where the passengers will be transferred and then flown to the Netherlands for further medical attention. Oceanwide has indicated that they do not have a specific timeline for this operation at the moment.
"We are coordinating the medical evacuation of two individuals currently requiring urgent medical care, along with the guest associated with the one who passed away," stated Oceanwide Expeditions. The company is maintaining communications with relevant authorities and will provide updates as the situation progresses.
Once the medical transfers are completed, the Hondius will begin its journey toward the Canary Islands, with an estimated transit time of approximately three days. Due to the sensitive nature of the situation, Oceanwide has opted to limit communications to written updates to ensure information accuracy and consistency.
