Margaritaville at Sea has engaged MJM Marine and Mivan, two companies from Northern Ireland’s Rathbane Group, for the refurbishment of its upcoming vessel, the Beachcomber. This transformation is part of a multi-million-pound project, with the vessel currently known as the Costa Fortuna set to undergo a significant makeover.
The Costa Fortuna will remain in service through the summer before entering a drydock for 12 weeks at an undisclosed shipyard in late September 2026. Afterward, it will reemerge as the Beachcomber and embark on week-long Caribbean cruises beginning in 2027, departing primarily from Miami.
Christopher Ivy, CEO of Margaritaville at Sea, emphasized that this project marks an important milestone for the company as they continue to grow their fleet and enhance guest experiences. He highlighted the impressive technical expertise of the Rathbane Group, expressing excitement over working with them to bring the vision for Beachcomber to life.
MJM Marine and Mivan will focus on upgrading various areas aboard the ship, including the central atrium, spa, children’s facilities, specialty dining venues, nightclub, and outdoor VIP spaces, alongside the “Flip Flop Bar.” Gary Annett, CEO of MJM Marine, remarked on the ongoing confidence of global cruise brands in their capabilities, noting their experience in executing complex projects within defined timelines.
John Cunningham, CEO of Mivan, expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with Margaritaville at Sea following their successful partnership in 2024. The recent announcement also includes plans for an expanded selection of bars and lounges on the ship, further enhancing its offerings for guests.
