Royal Caribbean Unveils Brand New Cruise Terminal in Seward, Alaska

Royal Caribbean Group has officially inaugurated the newly built Dale R. and Carol Ann Lindsey Alaska Railroad Terminal in Seward, Alaska. This modern terminal replaces older dock facilities that had been in use since the 1960s. Developed in collaboration with the Alaska Railroad, The Seward Company, and Turnagain Marine Construction, the terminal represents nearly a decade of efforts toward enhancing access to this premier travel destination.

Josh Carroll, senior vice president of deployment, destination development, and port operations, expressed excitement about the project’s completion, highlighting its significant potential for long-term economic development in Seward and the surrounding areas. He emphasized the contributions of supportive partners, local government officials, and the community in making the new terminal a reality.

Recognized as the largest cruise terminal in Alaska, the facility strategically adjoins the Alaska Railroad station, facilitating further travel options to Anchorage, Fairbanks, and beyond. The design includes 41,500 square feet of indoor space and an additional 27,000 square feet designated for open, pass-through luggage handling.

Bill O’Leary, president and CEO of the Alaska Railroad, acknowledged the importance of the terminal for the Seward area and broader Southcentral and Interior Alaska regions, allowing cruise guests to explore the state beyond their ship. The project also incorporates a shore power system, made possible through a grant from the US Environmental Protection Agency’s Clean Ports initiative. This system is designed to generate excess power during winter, which will be stored in battery systems to provide backup power for Seward during the colder months.
