Carnival Cruise Line has announced the cancellation of a unique repositioning cruise due to shipyard schedule changes affecting dry dock maintenance and refurbishment. This announcement follows a series of cancellations in 2025 that disrupted multiple ships and sailings, with the latest affecting a 16-day Southeast Asia voyage.
On June 18, Carnival informed passengers about the cancellation of the Carnival Splendor’s scheduled departure from Singapore to Sydney on September 1, 2027. The cruise line attributed this decision to changes in the dry dock schedule, stating that those booked on the sailing would receive an email detailing the situation.
To assist affected passengers, Carnival is allowing them to rebook on comparable cruises at their original rates and offering an onboard credit of up to $100 per stateroom for those who rebook. For those who opt not to reschedule, full refunds will be issued for cruise fares and other pre-purchased items. Luckily, as the sailing is over a year away, many passengers likely haven’t made extensive travel arrangements yet.
There is currently uncertainty regarding whether the ship’s dry dock, scheduled from August 15-31, 2027, has been postponed or if Carnival is planning to extend the duration of the ship’s maintenance for additional updates.
The Carnival Splendor, a vessel launched in 2008, is notable for its age and some passengers suggest that it could benefit from an interior overhaul, prompting Carnival to reassess its maintenance needs as it approaches two decades in service.
The Carnival Splendor operates year-round in Australia, where the cruise line is expected to reduce capacity in 2028 due to challenging operations. Nevertheless, it continues to offer a range of itineraries, from short getaways to longer vacations in the South Pacific.
Though the cancellation of the 16-day cruise was disappointing, an earlier 15-day repositioning trip from Sydney to Singapore remains available for booking, providing an alternative option for eager cruisers.
