Marella Cruises has announced that the Marella Discovery 2 will transition to an adults-only vessel starting in the winter of 2027. This decision is in response to increasing demand for child-free cruising experiences, particularly after positive feedback from previous seasonal deployments.
As part of this transformation, the ship will undergo significant refurbishment, which will see the repurposing of existing children’s facilities into four new entertainment venues designed exclusively for adults. These will include a speakeasy-style lounge, an escape room, a karaoke venue, and an arts and crafts space.
During the winter 2027-28 season, Marella Discovery 2 will operate from three homeports, embarking on a new 7-night Atlantic Fusion itinerary. This route will feature stops in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Puerto del Rosario in Fuerteventura, Arrecife in Lanzarote, and Agadir, Morocco, before returning to Las Palmas.
Marella Cruises cited sustained demand for adults-only holidays as the rationale for dedicating the Marella Discovery 2 to this demographic. The enhancements also aim to improve the overall guest experience.
The winter programme for 2027 will have Marella’s fleet of five ships cruising from six different European and Caribbean homeports. Noteworthy itineraries include Caribbean voyages from Barbados and Mediterranean itineraries from Palma de Mallorca, alongside a continued Canary Islands programme from Tenerife and Las Palmas.
In addition to these changes, Marella Cruises is expanding its Cruise & Stay initiative by adding 39 hotels to bring the total to 197 properties. These new accommodations will be situated in key locations such as Barbados, Gran Canaria, and Málaga, offering passengers more extensive pre- and post-cruise options.
Additionally, Marella has introduced Suite Service Max for guests booked in premium suites, providing a superior suite experience with enhanced amenities and personalized services. The cruise line’s strategy focuses on broadening vacation options while enhancing its adults-only offerings.
