Carnival Cruise Line is set to launch its largest ship yet, the Carnival Destiny, in 2029. This new vessel marks the beginning of a new era for the cruise line as the first ship in the Ace-class series. The construction officially began with a steel-cutting ceremony held by Carnival and shipbuilder Fincantieri in Monfalcone, Italy.
Weighing in at 230,000 gross tons, the Carnival Destiny will have the capacity to accommodate over 8,000 passengers at full capacity. It promises to be the most "outward-facing" megaship ever, featuring innovative designs such as ocean-view balcony cabins, a redesigned lanai deck, and extensive glass structures that enhance ocean views. Additionally, over 70% of the dining venues and entertainment options on board will introduce new concepts.
Christine Duffy, the president of Carnival Cruise Line, stated, "Carnival Destiny builds on a legacy that changed cruising once before, reimagining what guests can experience at sea." The ship pays homage to the original Carnival Destiny, which, upon its launch in 1996, was the first cruise ship ever to exceed 100,000 gross tons and is still in service today under the name Carnival Sunshine.
Carnival is also focused on upcoming vessels in its fleet, including the Excel-class Carnival Festivale, which will arrive at Port Canaveral in 2027. While itineraries for the new ship remain a mystery, Carnival has indicated that they will include popular destinations in the Caribbean, Bahamas, and Mexico, such as Celebration Key and RelaxAway, Half Moon Cay.
Overall, with 30 ships planned for its fleet by 2027, Carnival Cruise Line continues to expand and innovate in the cruise industry.
