Two ships from TUI Cruises, the Mein Schiff Relax and Mein Schiff Flow, are currently navigating the summer seas of Europe powered entirely by renewable LNG, specifically bio-LNG, which significantly lowers greenhouse gas emissions when compared to traditional fossil fuels. By July 2026, this eco-friendly fuel choice allowed the company to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 26,000 tons, with expectations to achieve 50,000 tons by year-end.
TUI Cruises is not only utilizing bio-LNG but is also pursuing broader sustainability efforts. These include the implementation of shore power systems on several ships, such as Mein Schiff 1, Mein Schiff 2, and Mein Schiff 5. Additionally, TUI adopts sustainable practices onboard by using eco-friendly textiles and appointing dedicated environmental officers to ensure operational efforts are aligned with green standards. The company has also minimized plastic usage and shifted its shore excursions toward environmentally responsible options.
In 2024, TUI debuted the industry’s first methanol-ready cruise ship with Mein Schiff 7. Presently, the Mein Schiff Relax offers itineraries that embark from Germany towards various destinations in the Baltic and Scandinavia. The Mein Schiff Flow, which made its debut earlier this year, spends its inaugural season cruising the Western Mediterranean, reaching ports in Spain, Italy, France, Morocco, and Portugal.
Both vessels, constructed by Fincantieri, represent a new chapter in TUI’s fleet, being the largest ships in their portfolio at 161,000 tons and a capacity for 4,000 passengers. Moreover, TUI is collaborating with Fincantieri on two additional LNG-powered ships scheduled for launch in 2031 and 2032.
